Yet, I Praise You (Part1)

Can you imagine being tormented with the death of loves ones, the loss of sheep and cattle, and the loss of all resources?. Can you imagine being inflicted with painful lesions and boils all over your body when your only fault was serving and worshiping God?…

Some of us may feel the same way…You may be going through some worst times in your life. You may be at your lowest point and wondering Lord, how did I get here? This is not the harvest of all the seeds that I’ve planted Lord. How much longer will I suffer?

But , let me tell you about a man who suffered, and in all his suffering, not once did he curse God or stop believing in him.

His name was Job.

(Job 1:6-12)

“One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came too. The Lord said to Satan, “where have you come from?”

Satan answered the Lord, “Roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.”

The the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job?” There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”

“Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throught the land. But stretch your hand and strike everything he has , and he will surely curse you to your face.”

The Lord said to Satan, ” Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself, do not lay a finger….

So, The Lord allowed Satan to destroy his land, his crops, and all his possessions. God even allowed Satan to take the lives of Jobs children that he prayed over every day and night.

But what amazes me is Jobs first reaction to this devastation. The bible says that ….

(Job 1:20-22)

“At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said;

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,

And naked I will return. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”

The bible says that in all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrong doing….

And this was just the beginning of the suffering…

How many of us can say that we have the heart of Job? How many of us can say that we can take a beating and keep on praising God? Not many. But Lord, we pray that you condition our hearts to serve you and to praise you no matter what. Lord help us to be still like Job even almost to the point of death and know that you are God all by yourself.  In Jesus name, amen.

To be continued…..
